"In accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh), an Action Plan II has been drawn up for the period June 1 to September 30, 2009," Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi.
Reviewing the first Action Plan of his Ministry, he said that many points had been "substantially implemented" but added "a few items have, however, spilled over which have been included in the second action plan."
Describing the Lalgarh operation as the "most important" event in June, he said, "I am glad to report that the Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMFs) have ably assisted the West Bengal Police in reclaiming most of the territory that had been dominated by the CPI(Maoist) for nearly eight months."
Outlining the work done by his Ministry during June, he said that Directors General of CMPFs have been given enhanced financial powers for capital works and land acquisition.
He also said a revised recruitment scheme for Constables in the CMPF was also approved.
Chidambaram said orders have also been placed for supply of automatic grenade launchers, grenades and hand held thermal imagers for paramilitary forces.
He said work is underway for the creation of National Population Register in coastal areas and districts of the country.
Under the Coastal Security Scheme, he said 73 Coastal Police Stations have been approved in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu Orissa and Andhra Pradesh besides in some of the Union Territories.
With reference to border security, he said eight km of fencing and five km of road works were completed on the Indo-Bangladesh border.
He also said 31 out of 33 Immigration Check Posts have been provided with upgraded computer systems.
"Thirty out of 33 ICPs and all five Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) offices have been networked to Central foreigners Bureau," Chidambaram said.
He said the Home Ministry has approved the work plans of Security Related Expenditure (SRE) for 2009-10 for Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and Maharashtra.
Chidambaram said the SRE Committee has also approved the inclusion of one more district of Andhra Pradesh and five of Orissa.
