Alan Cumming is joining the cast of Fox Searchlight’s Battle of the Sexes, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Steve Carell and Emma Stone star in the ripped-from-the-headlines story of the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King (Stone) and Bobby Riggs (Carell). Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are directing the film, which chronicles the Battle of the Sexes.

Cumming will play a character named Ted, believed to be Ted Tinling, who played a key role in King's life. The openly gay tennis player designed King’s dress for the big showdown and was a confidante as King came out as a lesbian.

Andrea Riseborough, Elizabeth Shue, Austin Stowell and Sarah Silverman round out the cast of the Simon Beaufoy-penned film, which is currently shooting.

Cumming, who stars on the long-running CBS drama The Good Wife, will next be seen in the indie comedy Hurricane Bianca.

He is repped by CAA, Troika and Untitled.
