Ethics of a Salary Cap Research

Discussion

My research question is "Is a salary cap, or a maximum salary, necessary to maintain a functioning league, specifically in the NBA. And is it ethical in terms of the amount of money players make for a team?"

From my research I have found quite a bit out about this topic. Using the EBSCO database I was able to find multiple sources that informed about this question. One interesting thing about my research, though, is that there are so many opinions and conflicting views about this one topic. Many people think NBA players make too much as it is and that a salary cap is necessary to maintain balance. A the same time though, there are people who believe that the amount of money players make is not fairly proportional to the amount of money a player makes for the team. In terms of ethics though, there haven't been many sources that have discussed that. Maybe because ethics is so variable from person to person that it cannot be researched. At the same time though, putting a maximum on how much a person can make is in its way a form of indentured servitude, but not many sources seem to discuss this.

Ramy, you address a very unpopular question in your research. You don't hear often that NBA players are not being paid enough. I believe that if a team is utilizing your image or likeness for profit, you should receive pay on top of you regular salary. Although I believe salary caps are required in terms of ethics and keeping the game sane and ethical. Also, I don't believe you can be experiencing indentured servitude by making 100 million a year.

You did a excellent job of citing your sources and I consider this a great research topic for you. One thing you might need to check out is whether college football players should receive pay for colleges applying their image for profit.

I agree with Xavier that this

I agree with Xavier that this is a very unpopular question in sports. Many often assume professionall athletes all live a lush and lavish life. The huge gap between the highest and lowest paid players is unfathomable. I really liked how you cited your sources and brought up some really good points.
