Mens Division A

Kapatsos Omonoia Nicosia

The Athletic Club Omonoia Nicosia was founded in 1948 and registered the basketball club at 1985 from then and on the team participates regularly in the Cyprus Basketball Division 1 other than the first four years where it was participated in the second Division.
The club's badge is the shamrock. The shamrock supposedly represents the strength of the Omonia founders, and the green color represents hope.
The club's basketball team hosts its matches at the biggest indoor sport venue in the island, the Eleftheria Indoor Hall with a capacity of 6,800 seats while the volleyball team shares the Lefkotheo Indoor Hall which was built in 1980 with APOEL Nicosia. Omonoia is by far the most popular team in Cyprus, with its supporters reaching 40% of the population of Cyprus
There are two major fan clubs supporting the team, Fan Club and Gate 9, which is the most active and biggest fan club. Omonia Nicosia took its name from Costas Kaiafas's father, Sotiris Kaiafas, who won the European Golden Boot in 1976. Gate-9 was first organized in 1992. Since then, thousands of loyal fans have followed Omonia Nicosia around the world. The club's fan base largely comes from the working class and is often identified with left-wing or even Communist. From the time of its creation in 1948, AC Omonoia was and is widely supported throughout Cyprus and it is by far the most popular team throughout the island
The Nicosia team has never won neither a championship trophy neither a cup trophy, until this very moment, however, the team in three cases (1992, 1995 and 2000)  in its modern history, ended in the first position in the regular season of the Cyprus Basketball Division 1, it could not manage to proceed far and away from its opponents.
Since August 2011 the Nicosia team has a new Sponsor as the Papa Johns Pizza will be the major sponsor of the team and it will be renamed into Papa Johns Pizza Omonoia.
The greatest players who ever worn the Green jersey of Omonia are the following:
Kevin Florent and Daryl Conway Battles, these two players developed one of the best ever duets in the Cyprus Basketball and they performed the best basketball in the season 1995-1996 when theυ lost in the finals after some really great games of those days. Battles ended the regular season with 31points per game while his performance in the semi-finals and in the finals was truly astonishing
Georgios Karapatakis the Cyprus international center and one of the tallest local players at the 90's with a height of 2.02 cm, played for five years in the Nicosia club before joining forces with Achilleas Kaimakli, APOEL and Intercollege Etha Engomis where he stayed for six consecutive seasons. It is worth mentioned that Georgios was a part of the magnificent team of Omonia Nicosia of 1995. The team of the particular season considers being the most successful team for Omonia since the very first day of its Basketball history.
Savvas Neophytou the older brother of Georgios Neophytou and a member of the brilliant team of 1995-1996 as a rookie with the very good three pointers.
And in the last decade where Omonia doesn’t have anything impressive to present:
Marvin Stone a very good power forward / center who played in the Spanish, German and Greek courts before coming to the Cyprus courts where he ended the season with amazing numbers for the power of the Nicosia team.
B.J. Pratt who came as a rookie in the European courts and then continued his career in the Spanish courts with quite success.
Georgios Neophytou who is currently a member of the team of APOEL Nicosia after ending a very good and solid career in the Greek courts mostly with teams of the Second and A2 divisions for more than six years.
Arthur Davis who was a very solid guard and ended the season 2007-2008 as a top scorer of the Cyprus league scoring a bit less than 20 points per game and some quite impressive performances over strong opponents in the Cyprus league.
Everette Louis Stephens the American basketball player who was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2nd round (31st overall) of the 1988 NBA Draft and was the leading figure in Omonoia at the mid 90's. A real captain in and outside of the courts.
One of the worst seasons ever for the Nicosia club was the season of 2012-2013 where it ended in the very last position and rellegated in the lower division where it is participating since the season 2013-2014.
The very next season though (season 2014-2015) the Cyprus Basketball federation decided to increase the teams of the first division by adding the team of Omonoia to participate as the 8th team in the first league. The specific status will be for the coming three seasons or untill further notice.. The Nicosia team is particiapting with the weakest (mostly) roster since the low budget and the lack of local players coming from the team is crucial issues which do not give a chance to the team to do something more than a position among the last places in the league..
