As he gears up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Dave Bautista is taking on another high-profile sequel. He is joining for the untitled follow-up to Blade Runner, which stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Robin Wright. As was the case with Wright’s casting last week, there are no details on Bautista’s character.
Shooting is set to begin in July on the pic from Denis Villenueve, who is directing a script by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. The story picks up several decades after the conclusion of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original. Thunderbird Films CEOs Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble are executive producers along with Scott and Bill Carraro. Warner Bros will open the film from Alcon Entertainment on January 12, 2018. Sony has overseas rights.
Bautista plays Drax in the Guardians films, the second of which is set for May 5, 2017. He also appeared in Spectre and Heist and has several pics in the pipeline including The Boss, Kickboxer: Vengeance, Marauders and Warrior’s Gate. He is repped by Gersh and DMBV.

Still hate the release date for this. The middle of Jan??? This is a SUMMER movie
Middle of January gives it less competition than it would have in the summer, both in terms of other big movies and other (outdoor) activities entirely, which people might want to spend their time doing instead, come summer time. That’s also about a month after Star Wars Ep. VIII. which I’m sure will feature trailers for this film to build the hype over that time. Furthermore, this is not a tentpole. I’d argue that most people don’t actually know what Blade Runner is. A January release gives this movie its best possible shot to succeed.
Great,so we only have to wait the better part of two years to be disappointed.
Can’t wait?!
