BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - Frank Denholm, a longtime attorney who represented South Dakota as a U.S. Representative in the 1970s, has died at the age of 92.

Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings says Denholm died Thursday.

Denholm grew up in Scotland Township in western Day County. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor's degree and served as a sheriff and an FBI agent before earning a law degree from the University of South Dakota and entering private practice.

The Democrat served four years in the U.S. House starting in 1971, but he lost his bid for a third term when he was defeated by political newcomer Larry Pressler in 1974.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Brookings with a burial mass on Wednesday morning.
