Professor Jeremy Farrar, OBE

Professor of Tropical Medicine and Director, Wellcome Trust

As director of the Wellcome Trust, one of the largest biomedical research charities in the world, Jeremy Farrar exerts great influence over the direction of British medicine. He graduated from University College London Medical School before completing his PhD at Oxford in 1998. Interested in the research of infectious diseases, tropical health and emerging infections, Farrar was director of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam prior to his directorship at the Wellcome Trust. Under Farrar, the research unit in Vietnam became the leading centre for clinical research on bird flu. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society last year.
