Free Crochet Pattern: Basic Ear Flap Hat

I think the easiest way to dress up a basic crochet hat is to use an interesting colorway. I have more than a few multi-colored skeins in my stash and decided to try some Bernat Mosaic for this pattern. It has long lengths of each color, which creates the beautiful striping from black, to magenta, to a light pink blush. These are my sister’s favorite colors, so I’m sure she’ll be calling dibs on this one. ;o) Happy crocheting!

Free Crochet Pattern: Basic Ear Flap Hat — 20 Comments

  1. I just wanted to thank you for sharing this awesome pattern. I had been searching and searching for a simple basic ear flap hat that I can use to create hats for a little girl who was just diagnosed with leukemia. You are awesome and I just wanted you to know that!!!!

  2. Thank you so very much for sharing this pattern. I love making hats for everyone, including the homeless in my area. It has been difficult finding a good generic pattern. This is the pattern I have been searching for. Thank you Thank you Thank you.

  3. When you finish the “hat” and got to the 1st earflap. Do you cut the yarn and re-join? I am a newbie-ish to crochet I’m making an Adult Medium and have “joined at the end of row 20, my yarn is still attached, but I can’t figure out hoe how to “join in the 11th stitch (it leaves 2 loops 11 sts apart with the yarn just flapping there???)
