EXCLUSIVE: Joshy and Life After Beth helmer Jeff Baena recently completed principal photography on dark comedy The Little Hours. The film, which shot under the radar in Italy, has now been acquired for international by Concourse Film Trade, the sales arm of Matthew Shreder and James Andrew Felts’ Concourse Media. The pic, with footage, will be introduced to buyers at next month’s Cannes Film Market. WME and CAA are repping domestic.
The director has assembled a cast that includes a host of actors who’ve appeared in one or both of his previous films as well as some folks who are new to the party. Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Kate Micucci, Aubrey Plaza, John C Reilly and Molly Shannon star. Also featuring are Fred Armisen, Jon Gabrus, Jemima Kirke, Nick Offerman, Adam Pally, Paul Reiser, Lauren Weedman and Paul Weitz.
The logline is being kept under wraps. Baena most recently directed the 2016 Sundance comedy Joshy, which jointly sold to Lionsgate and Hulu for domestic, and to Sony Worldwide for international. His first film, Life After Beth, was released by A24 in the U.S. and Universal Pictures International, as well as various distributors, overseas.
“It’s really impressive what Jeff and his team are able to pull off using unique and forward thinking storytelling techniques to approach filmmaking in a new way. It’s an incredible testament to the talent at the table and their ability to perform,” says Shreder.
The Little Hours is produced by Liz Destro of Destro Films, which produced Baena’s previous features. StarStream Media and Bow and Arrow Entertainment executive produce and finance alongside Productivity Media in partnership with Concourse. The film was also executive produced by Exhibit Entertainment and Foton Pictures.
