Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe's maroon Mercedes-Benz last night rolled smoothly onto the Tuks Stadium pitch after the Brazilians beat University of Pretoria 3-0 to clinch the Absa premiership with two matches to play.

The sleek car was immediately swamped by a sea of yellow-shirted fans as they invaded the pitch in a state of euphoria.

Motsepe had arrived at half time on crutches, his left ankle in a cast, and he was quickly ushered to the posh seats.

From there he watched his team toy with a lacklustre Pretoria University.

Sundowns clinched the league in fine style, getting the job done in the first half, much like they have been doing all season.

It was clear Sundowns wanted to get the job done as soon as possible. It took them just three minutes to open the scoring. Anthony Laffor tapped home from close range after some horrible defending by the hosts.

Laffor's second in the 18th minute was another simple tap-in but the build-up was a touch of brilliance from Khama Billiat.

Billiat's first touch after receiving a long ball from Keagan Dolly was exquisite. He left Tuks captain Willem Mwedihanga sprawling before crossing the ball into the box for Laffor to finish.

The third goal was another Billiat setup as Laffor completed his hat-trick with a cool finish inside the box on the hour- mark.

If anyone had doubts, Billiat showed why he is a hot favourite for player of the season award.

With 20 victories and three defeats, Sundowns are worthy champions.

A tired-looking Kaizer Chiefs continued their languid performance when they played to a goalless draw with Bloemfontein Celtic last night. It means Steve Komphela's side have now won just once in their last 11 matches and stayed in fourth place in the Premier Soccer League standings, behind Platinum Stars.

Celtic's slim hopes of a top eight place also ended, stuck in 12th place after winning just three of their last 24 encounters.

It was one of those evenings when both teams would have needed another few hours of playing before scoring.

"We are just waiting to complete our last two games to get the season over," said Chiefs coach Steve Komphela afterwards.

Denver Mukamba headed a late equaliser to seal what could be a precious point for Jomo Cosmos in their 2-2 Premier League draw at Ajax Cape Town last night, reports Nick Said.

Linda Mntmabo had given Cosmos the lead, only for Prince Nxumalo to score twice in the second period and put Ajax on course for an undeserved win.

But with virtually the final play of the game, Mukamba rose in the penalty area to head home and steal back a point for Cosmos in their bid to avoid the drop.
