Typed Letter Signed ("Ayn Rand"), 1 p, 4to, Chatsworth, California, March 12, 1949, on personal stationery, to Edgar Carter of H.N. Swanson, Inc.

Rand writes to Edgar Carter, an assistant to her literary agent, H.N. "Swanie" Swanson: "I am enclosing the copies of our agency agreement which I have signed. Would you please return one of the copies to me after Mr. Swanson has signed them [sic]." The letter dates from the same year The Fountainhead was adapted into the classic film from her 1944 screenplay. In addition to Rand, Swanson's extraordinary roster of clients included F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, Pearl Buck, and Raymond Chandler.
