Enjoy flying training at one of the finest soaring sites in these islands, in a beautiful setting beneath the cliffs of Binevenagh on the shore of Lough Foyle. The only age limit in gliding is that you must be 14 to fly solo, however, training may commence before age 14. There is no upper age limit.

"Majestic", "Silent", "Awesome" are all words used to describe the exhilarating experience of a flight in a glider. Young or old, male or female, gliding is many different things to many different people. It can be a fun family day out or an activity break. For some, it is just a casual hobby. For others, it is an inexpensive way to get airborne. For many, it is the cutting edge sport of racing or aerobatics. For all, it is a silent and graceful way of flying without an engine.

If you have the aptitude to drive a car, you probably have the ability to learn to fly. To experience gliding start by having a trial lesson. If you decide that gliding is for you, take lessons when it suits your timetable and budget. For faster progress to flying solo, you could consider a one-day or a two-day course. The Ulster Gliding Centre is the only gliding facility in Northern Ireland. Training is available to solo and beyond. Hand controls are provided for wheelchair users.

Gliders use the same air currents that birds use and they have been designed with aerodynamic efficiency that enables top speeds of up to 170 mph. Distances of over 200 miles have been covered from Bellarena in one day and heights in excess of 20,000 feet have been achieved. Gliding gives you the freedom to explore the world from a unique bird’s eye viewpoint.
