The main function of South Florida Cop Watch is monitoring police activity. We are a part of a network of activist organizations in the United States and Canada (and to a lesser extent Europe.) We go out on foot in our communities and record interactions between the police and civilians. We hope that monitoring police activity by “reverse surveillance” will provide a deterrent against police misconduct and police brutality. We also patrol at protests and demonstrations to ensure that police do not violate the rights of protesters.
South Florida Cop Watch groups also hold “Know Your Rights” forums to educate the public about their legal and human rights when interacting with the police, and some groups organize events to highlight problems of police abuse in their communities.
Please feel free to engage in discussion, share any information and post links. Together WE police the police, because Badges Do Not Grant Extra Rights.
