Changsha is a pretty bland looking place. It's dominated by hues of dingy brown and grey and that's including the sky. Oh sure there are parks with a smattering of trees and a lot of flowers but all the natural beauty has been torn down then rebuilt by hand. Nature is only here in man-made forms. Besides, I hate flowers.
The use of colour in the city is garish. Tacky is always 'in' and streches of vast openess non-exsitant. If there is an empty space, it must be filled. There is always a slight haze to everything and to appreciate anything you have to recalibrate your idea of beauty.
I have no idea why I like it so much.
