FCTV (Fondation Camerounaise de la Terre Vivante) and UN-Habitat have launched a Solar bulb Project in Douala and Yaoundé.  This consists of fitting a plastic bottle filled with water into the corrugated iron roofs of houses in slum areas which suffer from a lack of indoor lighting during the day.
The lighting produced by one solar bulb bottle is equivalent to the light produced by a 50 W incandescent
light bulb.

This technology will allow communities in slums to carry out household chores, increase their study times and to reduce their electricity bills. A short video on how these were made can be viewed here.
