Happy Memorial Day weekend! Whew, I'm pretty excited for this weekend because tomorrow I will be happily sitting in the stands to watch the Charlotte NASCAR race & to say I'm excited would be an understatement. Part of the reason I'm excited to go to the race is because it's my first one I'm going to & I'll be joining my dad in the stands! Anyways, I'm thrilled to share with you guys this concrete letter & ampersand because I'm loving the way they turned out.
Materials used:
Bucket
I purchased mine at Lowe's.
10 lb bag of concrete
You can use any pound bag, I was experimenting with this diy to see if it turned out right & it does.
Sheet
You can basically use anything to lay down, but I only had a sheet that I use for diys like this one.
Cardboard Ampersand & Letter
These can be purchased at Hobby Lobby & I got them for 50% off.
Stirrer
I found a random wood piece that worked perfectly for stirring the concrete.
Before mixing the concrete, I cut off the top parts of the cardboard, that way I could pour the concrete into the letter & ampersand. This was really easy to do & once you get a cut going, you can pretty much pull off the rest.
I then mixed the concrete & poured it into the letter & ampersand. I didn't care that it wasn't smooth because I planned on sanding it once it dried. I let it dry for a day & then sanded certain areas that needed it.
Once they were dried, the cardboard was moist, so all I had to do was peel off the cardboard, super easy!
That's it you guys! I find it weird that the texture is so different with both of them, considering I used the same concrete & poured it in at the same time, but I love the texture & look of them both. I plan on making a few other things, but I ran out of concrete this time around since I did a few other things with it, which you will see on the blog soon! So, what do you think of my concrete letter & ampersand? Have you made them before? I'd love to know! As always, thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeletehow heavy do you think each one is?
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool! Thanks for sharing! I think these would be fun to inset in a garden and plant ground cover around them...or something that would make them stand out more- even paint them then surround them with pea gravel- really the sky is the limit!

Blown away! I'm thinking about the round paper mache boxes that I could layer smooth stones in the bottom first then fill with concrete to make stepping stones, too! Those Ampersands and large letters are amazing. Guess I'll be stirring cement this weekend Ü Thanks for such a great idea
