TWO apprentices of the recent mentoring programme run by K-Mas Centre for Excellence (KCE) for local jobseekers, succeeded in getting employment in the government and private sectors.
The two were among the first batch of apprentices for the programme that began on April 7 and have undergone coaching and mentoring in personal development, leadership programmes and industry-related experiences.
Since then, they have grown remarkably in terms of confidence and skills sets.
K-MAS Centre for Excellence (KCE) is a centre led by young Bruneian leaders to equip and develop skills and experiences for future job prospects and career progression.
One of the participants, Ahmad Iyadh Kamil bin Haji Yusop, said, “The first day I came to the sessions, I was very shy and I couldn’t even talk in front of others but after a few weeks of training and sessions by amazing coaches, I was able to speak fluently and with confidence.”
Meanwhile, Afiqah Bari’ah binti Haji Emran said, “The coaches were very knowledgeable and delivered the content in an interesting way.
“They taught us to really reflect on our weaknesses and strengths so that we could improve. The trainers were all so friendly and helpful.”
“Coaching was very good! It improved public speaking skills, ideas on how to solve problems at work, how to create a resume with impact and how to be more prepared in attending interviews,” added Dayangku Nurul Fatin Fatimah binti Pengiran Sapiudin.
“The programme really helped me develop my confidence and interviewing skills. My communication skills are improving steadily as well. The KCE programme really helped me understand my personality and the way I communicate,” added Muhammad Fatin Zakiyyah binti Haji Saili.
“The KCE training was very useful for us to improve in terms of interview skills and how to write creative resumes. The trainers always ask feedback from us apprentices so we feel that we also have the right to speak up,” said Nuurulhuda Mardhiah binti Haji Tahir.
“I learnt a lot about resumes and interviews and other work related information. The coaches are all very helpful in improving the skill areas that are lacking. I learned more about myself through this programme,” said Abdul Hafiz bin Haji Syahir.
KCE aims to help the unemployed and employed by developing their skills and giving them the necessary requirements in their career choices, helping individuals achieve their life goals and ultimately, the goals of the economy.
No one can deny the growing rate of unemployment in the country and based on some interviews KCE had with private company owners, there is a lack in the expected set of skills in job applicants.
How can fresh graduates have any experience if every job requires a minimum amount of those experiences?
KCE helps with its Apprenticeship Programme.
KCE identifies the soft skills required by most organisations and the centre inculcates these skills in the apprentices and coaches them in developing them, making them better employees and leaders.
KCE continues in improving the skills and strengths of the applicants and is accepting applications for the next batch at its office at The Airport Mall. Interested candidates are welcome to join the programme after successfully passing its screening process.
