Two Romanian crews earned on Tuesday their qualification to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, at the Final Olympic Qualification and European Continental Qualification Regatta of Lucerne, Switzerland.

The women's eight (Mihaela Petrila, Ioana Strungaru, Madalina Beres, Laura Oprea, Adelina Bogus, Andreea Boghian, Roxana Cogianu, Irina Dorneanu and coxswain Daniela Druncea) won the final, and the women's lightweight double scull ended second. The first two crews in each final are qualified.

Romania already had three crews qualified to the Olympic Games — one women's double scull, one men's double scull, and one man's quad scull.

Rowing brought Romania 242 Olympic, world and European medals. The Romanian women's eight never missed the Summer Olympics in 40 years.AGERPRES (RO — author: Mircea Lazaroniu; editor: Teodora Oprea; EN — author: Marius Hosu, editor: Maria Voican; online editor: Maria Voican)
