Sir Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr, CBE

Founders, London Theatre Company

2015 saw the artistic director and executive director of the National Theatre step down from their roles after a highly influential period of more than a decade in charge. Credited with making theatre available to the masses through changes to ticket pricing and live broadcasting, Sir Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr have gone on to found a new organisation, the London Theatre Company. They are in the process of building a brand new theatre at One Tower Bridge which will run on a wholly commercial basis, with no subsidies or philanthropic grants. The theatre, due to open in 2017, will focus predominantly on producing new plays by new playwrights, demonstrating Hytner and Starr’s commitment to the next era of theatre.
