The Reception

The Queen gave a lunchtime Reception at Buckingham Palace for around 650 guests. Approximately 10,000 canapés were served accompanied by Pol Roger NV Brut Réserve Champagne.

The Wedding Cake

Cake-maker Fiona Cairns created an eight-tiered traditional fruit cake, decorated with cream and white icing using elements of the Joseph Lambeth technique.

The cake was made from 17 individual fruit cakes and featured up to 900 individually iced flowers and leaves of 17 different varieties. A chocolate biscuit cake was also created by Mcvitie's Cake Company at the request of Prince William.

William and Kate left the afternoon reception in Prince Charles's ribbon-festooned 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Mk 2 Volante.

the evening reception

In the evening, there was a second reception at Buckingham Palace where 300 guests enjoyed a menu created by Anton Mosimann. Memorable speeches were delivered by the best man, Prince Harry, and Kate's father, Michael Middleton.

The Palace's Throne Room was transformed into a nightclub, with the evening celebration coming to a close with fireworks on the Palace lawn. The bride and groom spent the night in a suite at the Palace.
