TUTTINGTON is a viillage and parish, 12 miles north from Norwich, 2 east from Aylsham station on the Great Eastern railway, in the Northern division of the county, South Erpingham hundred, Aylsham union and county court district, rural deanery of Ingworth and archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich. The church of SS. Peter and Paul which is now (1883) about to be retsored, is an ancient structure of flint with stone dressings: it is in the Perpendicular style, and consists of chancel and nave, and has a round tower and small spire with one bell, and south porch. The register dfates from the year 1544. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £198, from tithes and 24 acres of glebe, with house, in the gift of the Bishop of Norwich, and held since 1877 by the Rev. Wm. Armine Slipper M.A. of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. There is a chapel for the Reformed Wesleyans, erected and endowed in 1850 by R. M. Sutton. William Postle esq. is lord of the manor. The principal landowners are the Master and Fellows of Caius College, Cambridge, and William Postle and William Forster esqrs. The soil is generally rich and fertile, and the subsoil good brick earth. The chief crops are wheat, oats and barley. The area is 830 acres; rateable value, £1,468, and the population in 1881 was 198.
