WILDWOOD, MO (KTVI) - It is a difficult day at Babler Elementary in Wildwood on Highway 109 and Sheppard Road after a student there was killed over the weekend. Rachael Bick, 7, a first grader at Babler was hit by a SUV while on her way to a dance at the school.

Extra counselors are on hand at Babler today to help students and staff cope with the tremendous tragedy.

The tragedy all unfolded on Saturday evening around 6:4 5pm. Investigators say Rachael was crossing Highway 109 from a preschool parking lot to get to Babler when she was hit by a SUV pulling out of the Babler parking lot onto 109. She was rushed to a local hospital but died from her injuries.

Authorities say Rachael was on her way to a father-daughter dance at Babler called 'Light the Night' when she was hit and killed. Rachael`s father was apparently close to her when she was hit.

People spent yesterday putting up a memorial at the school for Rachael. The memorial has everything from stuffed animals to messages of love and compassion for Rachael.

The pastor of Rachael`s church says she was a sweet, energetic girl who was very active in her church. Rockwood Superintendent Eric Knost says district officials will do all they can to offer support and help people cope with what`s happened.

St. Louis County police say the SUV driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
