(May 27, 2016) – A strong start to the second half in attempt to come back from a 1-0 deficit at halftime was fizzled by two Lynn Williams’ goals in a one-minute span Friday night at Rhino’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. as the Breakers fell, 4-0, to the Flash.

Western New York rookie Taylor Smith scored the first goal of the match, beating Jami Kranich through a crowd inside the box to give the Flash a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

The Breakers had a few chances to level the match in the first half. In the 20th minute, defender Mollie Pathman smashed a shot from 20 yards out, but it went just wide. Less than 10 minutes later, Julie King played a great ball to Katie Schoepfer, who put one on frame, but it was saved by Britt Eckerstrom. In the 41st minute, the Breakers had the best chance of the game taken away at the goal line as King’s header was cleared away inches from going in.

The Breakers came out strong to start the second half and carried possession through the first 15 minutes, but were thwarted by Western New York’s defending. Angela Salem fired just wide in the 54th minute, one of the closest attempts on goal in the second half.

The Flash quickly turned their 1-0 lead to a 3-0 advantage when Lynn Williams scored in the 64th and 65th minutes. The Flash added one goal late, a penalty kick by Abby Dahlkemper.
