We have some big news to share about one of the most exciting projects ever undertaken here at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Just about five months from now on June 16, Shanghai Disney Resort will host a grand opening celebration and welcome its first official guests.

“When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,” said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. “The resort reflects Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we’ve ever created. We’re looking forward to showing it to the world and sharing it with the people of China for generations to come.”

You might remember that previously we announced an accelerated expansion plan, which will allow Shanghai Disney Resort to offer even more magic, more attractions and more entertainment. The resort will include two richly themed hotels; an expansive recreation area; a unique retail, dining and entertainment district; and an incredible new Disney theme park with six themed lands and never-before-seen attractions designed specifically for the people of China.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to experience the park. From Treasure Cove, the first pirate-themed land in a Disney park, to Tomorrowland, with its massive, color-shifting canopy at the TRON Lightcycle Power Run, not to mention the largest Disney castle ever, there’s so much to look forward to.

We’ll keep you updated as we get closer to opening day!

Comments

  • When will we be able to reserve/book hotel rooms and when will park tickets be available for purchase? In addition, will there be a limit on the number of consecutive days one will be allowed to stay at the Shanghai Disneyland hotel and visit the park?

  • Yeah any news about when pricing and bookings go online?

  • When can we start booking resort housing reservations?

  • Oh! We are going to Shanghai in April and was crossing fingers it would be open when we went. Oh well(sigh).

  • I’m planning to visit for the opening date of June 16. If anyone has any info on how to get tickets for the opening ceremony and what nights we can book rooms in the hotels (i.e. can we book the night before), etc… I would be very interested to know!!

By the way, to answer earlier posters (Michael and Hannette), it seems that the Enchanted Storybook Castle is not associated to a particular princess like at all the other parks, it’s just a mixture of architecture from lots of different Disney franchises.

  • It is not anyone’s castle. It is “Storybook Castle”, for all Disney royalty.

  • My sister and her family are living in Shanghai and are really looking forward to the Grand Opening there!

  • I’m wondering the same as Michael, whose castle is it? :-)

  • How does one book a trip there? I looked at the website and that info isn’t available. The park is opening on my daughter’s 18th birthday. It would be awesome to take her someplace where she can truly be a kid, as she becomes a grown-up.

  • When will we be able to book rooms in the hotels? I’ve just bought my plane tickets!

  • How exciting! Who’s castle is this?

    • Hi Michael, the Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disneyland is going to be the tallest, largest and most interactive castle at any Disney theme park. It will offer immersive attractions, dining, shopping and spectacular entertainment and will be the first castle in a Disney theme park that represents all the Disney princesses.

  • WOW!!! NEED TO GO!!!
