PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior left-handed pitcher Austin French (Orange, Conn.) of the Brown University baseball team was selected in the 27th round, 821st overall, by the Los Angeles Dodgers on day three of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
French is the second Brown player to be drafted in the past three years after J.J. Franco was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 2014 MLB Draft. French is the highest drafted player since 2011 when Matt Colantonio was selected in the 22nd round.
French, a member of Brown's weekend rotation, ranked second in the Ivy League with 60 strikeouts as a senior this past season. He finished with a 4-4 record with 54.2 innings pitched, highlighted by a pair of 11-strikeout performances against Holy Cross and Harvard. The Connecticut native racked up 90 strikeouts in 86 innings over the past two seasons.
