Super SEGA Deals on the Steam Summer Sale!

SEGA Steam Sale

It is that time of year, where the desert heat beats down on gamers everywhere, driving them mad — mad for summer savings, which is a serious disease that we take very seriously, and you shouldn’t joke about it.

And this is indeed no joke: For the duration of the Steam Sale all SEGA titles — excluding Call of Heroes 2 and pre-orders of Rome II — are 50% off!

Seriously though I love the Steam sales, I think I bought another 10 things just while typing this, and in addition to the 50% off you can look forward to Flash Sales and more on SEGA games: we’ll be posting on Facebook and Twitter as soon as they’re live, so stay tuned!

Here’s some of what’s on sale — browse at your leisure and stay tuned!

SEGA titles on Steam

Sonic the Hedgehog (Steam)

All SEGA published/developed titles: All of them. All of them! From Alex Kidd to Wonder Boy, from Condemned: Bloodshot to Ristar, from Total War to Bass Fishing.

All the SEGA.

Sonic Hits Collection

Sonic Franchise (Steam)

All of the Sonic: Sonic? Sonic. Sonic Sonic Sonic. Sonic!

Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic CD, Sonic Generations, Sonic Spinball, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I & II. Sonic the Hedgehog.

You may also like… Dreamcast Classics: They’ve got the Dreamcast on computers these days! That’s just crazy. Crazy Taxi that is. Also: Sonic Adventure! Space Channel 5 pt. 2! Fish!!!

And if you like that era of SEGA, you might like: Jet Set Radio and the inimitable NiGHTS into Dreams — two games with art & play styles that to this day look and feel like nothing else.

Dreamcast Collection (Steam)

Genesis Classics

SEGA Genesis Collection (Steam)

Genesis Classics: Look. This is my childhood and adolescence. It’s here. This is me, right here. I once spent $72 for the cartridge of Shining Force II, and you can have it for $1.49. Streets of Rage II is worth purchasing for the soundtrack alone. I don’t know what to tell you. This is me.

The only thing not in this collection is the Genesis Classics Pack V, which notably includes Phantasy Star I – IV. Phantasy Star IV in particular is one of the very best 8 or 16 bit RPG games, and still immensely fun. And plus PSIV by itself is $1.49 and if you want to prove me wrong then the cost of playing it and doing so is now set at $1.49. That’s a pretty great price to call me a liar.

Total War

Total War Grand Master Collection (Steam)

Total War Grand Master Collection: Look at all the Total War! Just look at it! Do you have any idea how many hours of incredibly detailed tactical strategy are in this collection?

Okay wait, more than just hyperbole, you know what’s really neat here? Shogun II is integrated with the Steam Workshop, so you can easily add and remove player-made content to the game. If you are a fan of the Total War series then you know player-created mods have always been one of the coolest things about the games, and the mods and the games themselves have grown up together. I love the Steam Workshop, and seeing it integrated with Shogun II is particularly awesome.

It’s SEGA Steam Summer Sale savings: because alliteration this good only happens once a year.

PlayStation Network Sale for Space Channel 5: Part 2

Space Channel 5 Part 2

Good news for fans of dancing … in space!

We have a PlayStation Network sale for you — Space Channel 5: Part 2 is on sale for 50% off (60% off for Playstation Plus members).  This sale lasts from now until September 11th. In case you are unfamiliar with the zany, rhythm/dance Dreamcast title, here’s a quick Q&A:

Q: Is Space Channel 5, Part 2 the infectiously fun action rhythm game that follows fan-favorite Ulala as she uses the power of dance to fight off the rhythm rogues?

A: Why, yes it is!

Space Channel 5-0002

Q: Why would she fight the Rhythm Rogues? What’d they ever do to her?

A: Glad you asked – the Rhythm Rogues kidnapped Space President Peace, beloved for his policies of non-aggression, along with thousands of other people, and forced them to dance until there is literally no tomorrow.

Q: Wow, that’s messed up. So why did you release part 2 instead of part 1?

A: Because Part 2 has Space Michael, that’s why.

Space Channel 5-0108

Q: Oh wow, that is awesome, and kind of crazy. Wait, I forgot. What’s happening again?

A: Space Channel 5, Part 2! On sale! 50% off on PlayStation Network (60% for PlayStation Plus members)! From now until September 11th!

Q: Dance?

A: Dance!

How to Send Direct Messages on Twitter

Due to a change in our account status with Twitter, you should be able to send us direct messages without us following you. However, third-party applications may not allow you to.

There are a few ways to send us a Direct Message on Twitter. The easiest way is:

  1. Log in to your Twitter account.
  2. Click on the person icon and select Direct messages from the drop down menu.
  3. You’ll see a pop up showing your Direct message history. Click the New message button, highlighted below.
  4. In the address box, type the name or username (SEGA) of the person you wish to send a message to.
  5. Enter your message and click Send message.

You may also select the “direct messages” tab from your Twitter homepage, and select SEGA from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Again, if you don’t see our name there, it’s probably because we’re not following you. Let us know, and we’ll follow you. If you still have questions on sending direct messages, please visit Twitter’s Help Section.

There are also many Twitter clients that you can use instead of using the website. These include TweetDeck, Twitteriffic, Tweetie, and Twhirl. Each of these programs works differently, so you’ll want to figure out how to send a direct message on the program you use. If you want to send us a test message, we’ll let you know if we received it or not. Please make sure your message says “test” somewhere.

SEGA Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 – Release Dates Confirmed!

Attention, all Anglers and Spacecats!

We have some dates for you: SEGA Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5, Part 2 are going to be available, digitally, over Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network — October 4th for PSN and October 5th for XBLA!

The games will each be available for either 800 Microsoft Points (same for all territories), or $9.99/£6.29/€7.99/AUS$12.95 on PSN.

Space Channel 5-0108
Space Channel 5-0010

Space Channel 5 Part 2 is the infectiously fun action rhythm game that follows fan-favorite and funktastically spunky newscaster Ulala as she fights off the Rhythm Rogues. These dastardly dance deviants have captured the noble leader, Space President Peace, and thousands of other innocents — and forced them to dance until there is literally no tomorrow.

Although there is considerably less dancing in SEGA Bass Fishing, it nonetheless runs with the Dreamcast spirit of being infectiously fun and engaging — perhaps bass fishing is not your idea of wild action, but this game has a unique charm all its own, and like the best of the Dreamcast era runs with a concept as far as it can, concerned both with being a great fishing game and being a great game on its own. Or put less dramatically: Fish!!!

Update: It is 100% worth mentioning that the PlayStation Network version of SEGA Bass Fishing supports Sony Move! The original was a fun game regardless of how you played it, but one of the neat features was, of course, the awesome Bass Fishing controller for Dreamcast. Now, you can use your Sony Move controller in your relentless pursuit of the big one!

To recap: Anglers and Spacecats! Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Bass Fishing! October 4th, PSN! October 5th, XBLA! Dance! Fish!!!
