eBay Auction for Japan Relief – Part 2

DCredcrossThanks to Raki from SegaShiro for making this sweet Red Cross/Dreamcast/Play for Japan graphic for us!

Earlier this week, we listed several items on eBay for auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan. The response was overwhelming — we received several thousand dollars in bids, with many items going for $300 or more. Thank you to all who bid, and will continue to bid, on these items.

We sent an email to all employees at SEGA of America to let them know what we were doing, and many people wanted to help out. Yesterday was a parade of people coming by our desks with items to donate for auction. Many of these items are from their own personal collections, and are things that they’ve held on to for years. We also got some people internally to sign items in the hopes that it would increase the auction value. Everyone at SEGA has pitched in to help with this, and we just can’t thank them enough. We’re honored to work with amazing people here at SEGA.

One of the things we heard from a few folks after our first set of items went up was that they would like to bid and contribute, but they didn’t have enough money to bid on items that were listed. Because of that, we’ve listed some smaller/less rare items in the hopes that everyone will be able to find something that fits their interest and budget. Even if you can’t or choose not to bid, we need your support! Please help us in spreading the word to friends, family, and fellow gamers about our auction.

Not all of our items are on the smaller scale, though. We’ve got several really valuable items, including a prize so awesome that I still have a hard time believing that we’re giving it up. You can see all of our new prizes in the photos and item descriptions, along with links to bid, below.

We will be listing even more items in the coming days, so keep watching for new stuff! And thanks again for all your support. SEGA fans ROCK!!

Official Bayonetta Costume

Bayonetta on the Show Floor

Seriously? Seriously.

We are incredibly excited to offer this for auction. If you were at E3, Comic Con, or saw coverage of events where we had our live Bayonetta model, then you’ve seen this item in action. This is the completely original, totally custom-made, incredibly accurate and detailed Bayonetta costume. It’s truly the only one like it in the world.

The costume does include the wig (and foam head) with ribbons and chains, the bodysuit, the gloves and the boots. This costume does NOT include the glasses or the guns. The bodysuit has all of the details you’d expect from an accurate representation of the character, including the round chest piece, chains on the front and back of the costume, and more.

Because it was custom-made to fit our Bayonetta model, we don’t have a numbered size for it. However, you can examine the photos above and below to see the size of the bodysuit. The boots are a size 10. The wig should fit most heads. The gloves should fit most hands/arms.

Sonic the Hedgehog 15th Anniversary Figurine

Sonic the Hedgehog 15th Anniversary Figurine

What you’re looking at was part of a figurine series created to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 15th Anniversary back in 2006. This figurine is about 4 inches tall, and is of excellent quality and detail. It was owned by a SEGA of America employee, who took care of it at his desk, and is now donating it to help with Japan relief efforts.

The figurine features modern-style Sonic and comes with a black base that reads “SONIC” on the front. On the top of the base, just in front of where Sonic stands, is the official Sonic 15th Anniversary Logo, marking the piece as part of the 15th Anniversary Collector’s series. Sonic’s arms are slightly bendable, but this figurine is meant for collectors, and is not recommended for playing with, chewing on, or using to save the world. (That said, sometimes Eggman just needs a good beating!)

As part of the 15th Anniversary set, this figurine is also unique from the Sonic Statue, which is larger and limited to a run of 2500. (We also have one of these up for charity auction – check our full listing page for info!)

Signed Vanquish Art & Statue

Vanquish Statue and Signed Art

What you’re looking at is a signed glossy art piece from the PlatinumGames team featuring Inaba-san and Mikami-san signatures and a very special and highly detailed statue from the Vanquish Videogame. The signed art images were hand signed by the development team in preparation for the game release. The Vanquish statue was part of the original pre-order offering in Europe. This particular statue was donated by our marketing director and has been unopened, still in its original packaging!

Project Needlemouse “Team Needlemouse” T-Shirt

Project Needlemouse "Team" T-shirt
This is a limited edition, super-rare Project Needlemouse t-shirt that was created for SEGA employees working on Sonic 4. If there was one T-shirt that Sonic fans are constantly asking about, this is it – and for good reason, too: only about 250 of these T-shirts exist in the entire world, and most of them were given out at Comic-con and internally to the teams working on Sonic the Hedgehog 4, back when the game was code-named Project Needlemouse.

This is one of our last remaining new Project Needlemouse t-shirts here at SEGA, and we think that there are few better reasons to donate it than to help Japan in this time of need.

The shirt features the Sonic Silhouette and reads ‘PROJECT NEEDLEMOUSE’ above it on the front. The left sleeve features the SEGA logo, and the right sleeve reads “TEAM NEEDLEMOUSE – 9.09.09″. This date is a reference to two things: the first reveal of Project Needlemouse, and also the original launch of the Dreamcast, which launched on a similar 9.9.99 date.

The shirt is size XL.

MADWORLD T-Shirt

Original MADWORLD T-Shirt

What you’re seeing here is one of the first edition T-shirts in SEGA’s popular MADWORLD series. While later versions of this popular shirt would show up at NYCC, this is a new, unworn, original T-shirt, given only to select press and SEGA employees back when SEGA and Platinum Games first announced their major partnership in San Francisco. It is a size Medium

The shirt is a play on the quirky nature of MADWORLD – and the fact that you can stab people in the head with CAUTION signs. Beyond being part of the super-limited first run, you can also tell this shirt apart from the later variants by the sheer size of the “CAUTION” sign on the front, which is huge and bright on the first edition set.

If you’re a fan of MADWORLD or Platinum Games, this is your one – and perhaps only – chance to score one of the first edition promo items from one of the most graphic games on the Wii!

(Because, you know, that’s what Directors do!)

Rumor has it this Notebook was even down through generations from each SEGA Director to the next over the last two-hundred and fifty years. Other rumors state that it holds the power to create world peace, and that using this notebook while wearing a “three wolves howling at the moon” shirt will amplify your natural Director powers, instantly transforming you into a qualified, bona fide leader. Please note that we have not tested either of these rumors to confirm their validity.

The Epic Soniclock!

The Soniclock

DSC00785

DSC00786

***Own the most epic, rare Sonic Clock in the history of the world!***

You probably thought we were joking about that whole “Most epic Sonic Clock in the whole world” part, right? To understand the value of this masterpiece, one first needs to know its history…

This clock was originally given out for free to a SEGA event attendee last year. Apparently that person wasn’t a huge fan of Sonic, and in a gesture that was probably meant to insult us, he destroyed part of the clock and then put it up on Ebay. The rest of the Sonic community was appalled, until…

One of the other attendees from that same event bid on the clock – and won it. And then the story got 10x better: The winner wrote around the edges of the clock, in a personalized message to SEGA and our Sonic 4 Brand Manager Ken: “The Sonic(lock) Cycle as you truly imagined it!”

For Christmas that year, we here at SEGA received a package – and within it, we got our clock back. You can check out the full blog detailing the awesome return here: http://bit.ly/h9rXDN

Now, we have decided to end (or continue?) this story where it began: Ebay. We’ve upgraded the clock, adding a new “Biker-Balough” picture to the 12:00 spot, and have repaired the rest of it through large amounts of super glue and excessive strips of tape. The Soniclock has been upgraded to a new level, and by bidding on this piece of SEGA Community history, you can also help those in need in Japan!

Details about the Soniclock:

* Features Ken “Biker” Balough at 12:00!
* Signed by Ken Balough on the side. Reads: “It’s Biker Balough O-clock! -Ken”
* Also signed by Community member Skyler, who originally saved the clock here on Ebay.

A copy of Stormrise for PS3. Must be 17 or older to win, and must live in US, Canada, Mexico or Latin America.

How it Works

  1. You must be following us on Twitter to be eligible. (If you don’t have a Twitter account, you can create one by going to http://www.twitter.com and click the green “get started — join!” button in the center of the page.)
  2. At random times on Friday, we will announce the prize we are giving away, and what number of response you need to be to win. Send us a direct message (DM) via Twitter and be that number to win the prize. (@ replies do not count as entries!)
  3. All followers are eligible to win all prizes, unless a restriction is noted. Restrictions are usually due to the prize being region-locked. For example, US games that won’t work on UK gaming systems.  There may also be age restrictions due to the rating of the game.
  4. We will announce the winner on our Twitter feed once eligibility is confirmed.

Make Sure We’re Following You on Twitter

If you are currently following us on Twitter, please be sure that we are following you as well. You can do this by making sure that SEGA is in your “followers” list, or by going to DoesFollow and typing SEGA in the first blank, your Twitter username in the second, and pressing the “check” button. You can reverse this to be sure that you are following us. If you are following us, but we’re not following  you, please send a message to @SEGA and we will follow you. This is important, because only people we follow can send us direct messages (DMs), and DMs are the only way to enter the giveaways.

How to Send Direct Messages on Twitter

There are a few ways to send us a Direct Message on Twitter. The easiest way is to go to our Twitter page and select “message” under the “Actions” heading in the side bar. If you do not see “message”, this means that we are not following you. Please send a message to @sega to let us know, and we will follow you. When you click “message” you will be taken to a window where you can type a message and press send.

You may also select the “direct messages” tab from your Twitter homepage, and select SEGA from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Again, if you don’t see our name there, it’s probably because we’re not following you. Let us know, and we’ll follow you.

There are also many Twitter clients that you can use instead of using the website. These include TweetDeck, Twitteriffic, Tweetie, and Twhirl. Each of these programs works differently, so you’ll want to figure out how to send a direct message on the program you use. If you want to send us a test message, we’ll let you know if we received it or not.

Bayonetta wins Best Action Game of E3 award from 1UP!

Bayonetta was sizzling at this year’s E3, and now that the awards are coming through, 1UP has announced that Bayonetta has won their Best Action Game of E3 award! This means that Bayonetta beat out even heavy hitters like Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, and God of War III!

If you hadn’t taken note of Bayonetta just yet – strap on your gun-boot hybrid footwear and get ready for one crazy ride. You can check out all the details on Bayonetta here, and if you’re just getting started in the world of Bayonetta, say hello here on the official Bayonetta forums!

Bayonetta @ E3

Bayonetta Logo

Bayonetta was the star of the E3 show in my opinion. The game, which if you haven’t heard or seen, is something you should rush to check out. It’s being developed by PlatinumGames and Directed by Hideki Kamiya, who pioneered the action genre with Devil May Cry. Now, Bayonetta is set to break out of the action game mold with a new take on the genre, will it succeed?

Sega @ E3 2009 - Day 2

E32009 Bayonetta ScreensE32009 Bayonetta Screens

If you asked that question to anyone who played Bayonetta on the show floor, it was a universal “Yes!” E3 2009 was the first time when fans, who had seen our trailers, had a chance to get their hands on the game, and the reactions from the floor did not disappoint. We talked with a wide range of people, some who were ready to buy day one, and others who were on the fence. The fence sitters in particular were fun, because we’d chat a bit before they picked up the controller about how they were unsure, and have a completely different conversation once they had a chance to execute a Torture attack and fight the bosses.

Bayonetta on the Show FloorSega @ E3 2009 - Day 2

Also on the show floor was an amazing model dressed as Bayonetta. This costume was perfect and the model is a great job showing off the style of this new action heroine. I managed to find the time to take some pictures of Bayonetta, a few of which are here, but we have more at the Sega Flickr.

I wasn’t the only person who enjoyed seeing the model, USA Today has a front page video of Bayonetta, as well as an interview with our Brand Manager Wayne Shiu. Check it out!

The Conduit @ E3 2009

High Voltage Software Booth - The Conduit

Just before the show we had a chance to post some of the concept designs for High Voltage Software’s booth at the E3 show showing off The Conduit. In render form, the booth looked really cool, showing off a lot of high quality art and even some hidden codes. With camera in hand, I took a walk over to the booth to meet the High Voltage team and take some more photos of the booth across the floor.

As you can see, the booth really comes alive across the show floor. There were a lot of nice imagery from the Conduit, no matter what side you were looking at. The renders of the characters on the side of the booth was great. Also at the High Voltage Booth was Mark Sheppard, who you might recognize from Battlestar Galactica, among other Sci-Fi TV Shows. I had the great opportunity to meet, Mr Sheppard and even got him to sign some swag for the giveaways across an upcoming podcast. You’ll have to listen in if you want to grab them!

At our own Sega booth, The Conduit was featured very prominently next to Aliens Vs Predator and Alpha Protocol. We had six playable stations that were busy throughout the show with a lot of Conduit fans and newcomers who hadn’t had a chance to play it. The game showed very well across the floor and has been nominated for Best of E3 courtesy of IGN!

I have to say that everyone at High Voltage Software is great. When I arrived to the booth, everyone was extremely friendly and offering fun stuff left and right. Big thanks to everyone at the High Voltage Software and Sega booths for their help in getting us the photos and helping out across the show floor.

Sega Booth @ E3 – Day 2

Sega @ E3 2009 - Day 2

E3 Day 2 and boy are my feet tired! We had another great day on the floor with a lot of activity and a ton more people coming by to see our games in action. I cannot wipe the smile from my face, E3 is like a gamer holiday for me – tons of news, tons of games, and a ton of happy gamers eager to play our games.

Yesterday we took some photos of the booth and today I made a point to take some additional images to really show off how everything comes together. I really want to highlight what it looks like from the outside looking in, since it’s a rather unique perspective. From just about every angle, you’ll always have a chance to see at least three games. After the show, we should have some build photos of how it all came together, so be on the look out for these after the show is over.

Something that we haven’t really talked about is our massive video wall. From the moment you arrive at the booth, it cannot be missed. It is at least 20 feet tall, wide screen, outputting at a very crisp 1080p, and running all of our trailers. We will definitely be following up with our Media and Events Manager, Teri Higgins, for more info on how this screen came together. For now, enjoy some shots to show off the scale.

Aaron records a podcast segment with Dan

Overall it was another fun day at the booth for the community team. We got some time to record a follow up Podcast with interviews from the show floor. I don’t want to spill the beans on what we have planned, but we have our full line up covered, so do check back to hear the final show. We also ran a few booth tours with websites we work with, which is a lot of fun – getting demos straight from developers is always a treat, I will never get tired of.

Lastly, we had some fun events at the booth today, including the one and only, Bayonetta. In an amazingly crafted costume, Bayonetta was a real treat to see on the show floor. I got a few really good shots of her posing across our stage, do check them out across our flickr page.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the blogs and updates, we’re having fun getting them out. Enjoy the photos and let us know what you think!

Vancouver 2010: Landing

I had a chance to get my hands on the game yesterday, and give the ski jump a try. It does require some great timing and reflexes, but it was a lot of fun (even though I crash-landed each time). I was really struck by how beautiful and realistic the scenery is in the game.

We have more screenshots in our Vancouver 2010 and E3 sets on Flickr, so check them out. Below is the trailer that we’re showing on our mega-video wall in our booth.
