Thiago Emiliano da Silva was born on 22 September 1984 in Rio de Janeiro. Growing up, he played for the Fluminense youth teams but never signed a pro contract with the club. A central defender, he then joined RS Futebol, in the Brazilian third division. After an excellent debut season, he signed immediately for Juventude in the first division.

He quickly caught the eye of FC Porto, who signed him in 2004, howver he failed to impose himself and headed off to try his luck with Dinamo Moscow in Russia. It was a second disappointing experience and after an injury-plagued season, Thiago Silva returned home to the club where it all began, Fluminense.

Back in Brazil he played three excellent seasons and won his first trophy (the Brazil Cup 2007), and reached the 2008 final of the Copa Libertadores and earned his first international cap. In 2008 he decided to give Europe another chance and signed for AC Milan. He became a mainstay of the Rossoneri central defence in the 2009-10 campaign and was crowned Italian champion in 2011.

A first-choice central defender with the Selecao and considered one of the best central defenders in the world, Thiago Silva is the second mercato recruit to PSG and completes the club's Brazilian quartet alongside Alex, Maxwell and Nene. He will try and etch his name in the club history along with other illustrious compatriots Valdo, Ricardo, Raï, Leonardo and Ronaldinho...
