Tasmania is full of breathtaking scenery in secluded spots; Arthur River is one such place that boasts both beauty and quietude. Right on the waterfront and surrounded by rainforest, Arthur River Spa is nature-based luxury at its very best. And with room enough for you and your family or whole crew of friends, this is a remote experience that’s made to be shared.

Curling along the road to your holiday haven gives you a sense of the respite you’re about to enjoy. The streets are flanked on each side by coastal shrub, and you’ll pass low-lying signs pointing you to the river. When you arrive, get ready to switch gears almost immediately. The first thing to impress will be the setting, and with a deck complete with a wood-burning stove to gather round while taking in the gorgeous view, you’ll definitely make the most of it. This place is all about winding down; curling up on the lounge bathed in northerly light, soaking in the master bedroom’s spa, and spreading out on the verandah at sundown, listening to the waves of the Southern Ocean pounding in the distance.

Arthur River Spa has everything needed to be completely self-contained. There’s a kitchen for piecing together fresh Tasmanian produce, and you can cast a line out the front for a bite to throw on the barbecue. Get the fire roaring and pop on a movie when you want to zone out, and if there’s contention over what to watch, there are TV-DVD combos in two of the bedrooms, too.

It will be hard to leave this peaceful home and all of its creature comforts (and that’s pretty much the idea), but if you do feel like exploring you’ve got plenty of options. Checkout the surrounding coastal reserve by foot or on an off-road drive, and you’ll spot a variety of furry locals along the way – from wombats and echidnas to Tasmanian devils and wallabies. There’s space for you to park your boat, so you can plan to spend your days floating along the mirror calm river. And when you’re done adventuring outdoors, you’ll love returning to relax at this cosy river retreat.
