Pastor Lynn has served as pastor at Clifton Presbyterian Church since August 1995 following pastoral positions in Vienna, Virginia, (1 year), Adelphi, Maryland (2 years) and Bethesda, Maryland (8 years). Pastor Lynn’s priorities in ministry include: pastoral care, preaching and teaching to invite individuals and the church into deeper growth in faith and fellowship as we wrestle with life’s deepest questions, opportunities and challenges; and engaging the congregation more deeply in mission and outreach in our community, our nation and our world.
Pastor Lynn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations from Denison University, and a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry degree both from Wesley Theological Seminary. Before entering the ministry she was a program director and English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor in YMCA sponsored programs in Kumamoto, Japan. This was followed by ESL and cultural orientation instruction with Save the Children in a refugee camp in central Thailand.
Pastor Sarah comes well prepared for ministry to our church and especially our youth. She received her M. Div. degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and received her B.A. in philosophy, magna cum laude, from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina.
While in seminary, she was a seminary intern at Riverdale Presbyterian Church, Bronx, NY, and at First Presbyterian Church, New York, NY, and was the Children’s Ministries Assistant at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York, NY. She also served as clinical pastoral intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has had a long association with Montreat Conference Center where she was a counselor, the supervisor of counselors and the assistant director of the children's day camps.
Pastor Lewis serves as a parish associate and assists in teaching Bible study classes. He lived in Iran as a missionary and overseas associate in mission for almost twenty years. While there, he initiated a program to develop a new translation of the Bible into modern Persian. He has also been a practicing lawyer. He has served several churches as interim pastor and has served National Capital Presbytery as member and clerk of its Permanent Judicial Commission.
Pastor Lewis enjoys the fellowship of the men who meet monthly for breakfast and engage in Bible study or study of Christian theology. He enjoys growing with church members in living the life in Christ and singing the hymns of our faith. He is married to Parvaneh Assad who became a Christian and married Lewis in Iran after the death of Lewis' first wife Dr. Margaret Bailey Johnson. Lewis has two grown children, six grandchildren and one stepson.
Music Director Dominick Izzo
Dominick Izzo, hailing from upstate New York, came to the greater Washington area to pursue his bachelor of choral music education degree at George Mason University. Dominick augmented his degree with concentrations in both piano and voice.
Dominick has appeared as a piano soloist in various solo recitals like the George Mason School of Music Honors Recital, The Grand Piano Celebration, and the VMEA Colligate Recital. As a singer, Dominick has been a featured soloist with the University Singers and Chorale; as well as directing the Vocal Jazz Choir, Soundcheque.
Dominick has conducted in master classes for renowned conductors Dr. Craig Jessop of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt at the ACDA Southern-Division Convention. He has also made conducting appearances with the National Philharmonic Singers and the Grammy nominated choir, Seraphic Fire. On the world stage, Dominick has performed as a chorus singer and accompanist in Austria, Italy, Iceland and Germany.
Dominick comes to Clifton Presbyterian with many years of experience working as a singer, accompanist, and director of many church music programs in the greater Washington area and upstate New York. He feels blessed to be given the opportunity to share his gift with this wonderful congregation.
