ExploreIt was bad enough, police say, when someone took documents about Jodi Beth Kahn's arrest, as well as medical bills and collection notices, and placed them on the windshields of her neighbors' cars and the community mailbox and mailed them to her parents and employer.
But then, police allege, Anthony David Schell, Kahn's former landlord, arranged for an employee to leave an obscene insult on her door that mentioned her Judaism.
And painted a Nazi swastika on it.
And smashed her mezzuzah.
Now police have charged Schell, 32, with hate crimes, stalking and criminal mischief.
Schell was arrested just after midnight today. This morning, Circuit Judge Ted S. Booras ordered him held in lieu of $10,500 bail.
According to a Palm Beach Gardens Police report, Kahn, 48, reported a series of incidents in October and November at her apartment at Legacy Place.
Kahn, who moved out in November, said she left, and stopped paying rent, after learning the unit was in foreclosure, the report said.
On Oct. 12, someone sent booking information to a carpet and flooring company owned by her parents about her March arrest on a charge of larceny between $300 and $5,000. The charges later were dropped, court records show.
Someone also posted her booking information on the community mailbox and mailed it to her new landlord and her-then employer, a Palm Beach doctor, the report said.
Someone also handed out booking information and an arrest report on the sidewalk in front of the doctor's Worth Avenue office, the report said.
And someone attached her booking information and bills and collection notices on windshields in the parking lot.
Police tracked a license plate to man who worked for Schell and whose wife was a friend of his.
He said Schell directed him to take the actions, and he did so because he feared losing his job.
Schell initially acknowledged ongoing landlord-tenant problems with Kahn but denied the acts.
Later, in a call monitored by police, Schell apologized to the man's wife for putting him up to the mischief, the report said.
