The actual diorama board itself is only 30cm square (that's 12 inches / 1 foot square in US / Imperial measurement terms).
The 'forest' background is achieved by strategically placing two or three more 30cm square terrain boards with forest terrain pieces behind the diorama board to form the mid-ground scenery.
The distant 'forest' background is formed naturally by the bushes and trees in my garden, where I photographed the diorama, to get a good even, natural lighting effect.
