Oral health is often overlooked as being an indicator of overall health. Many serious health conditions ranging from diabetes to bronchiectasis are detectable in oral microbiology, there are symptoms present in the mouth that are indicative of these conditions. Almost all other aspects health come with products that offer self-monitoring - such as blood pressure, blood sugar, weight etc.
Nuvanatek's Nuvanatooth monitors and administers essential oral health care. Keeping breath fresh, checking for bacteria, and changes in bacterial prevalence in the mouth over time.
The Nuvanatooth was designed and created by two UBC dental students and one UBC engineering student - all aspiring oral health care revolutionaries. The first beta version was released in limited quantities to select dentists and dental hygiene practitioners for testing in limited quantities in the summer of 2015. Originally intended to be a tool used by professionals, our aspiring revolutionaries began to contemplate the idea of giving consumers agency over their oral health care monitoring and administration - giving them access to the professionals' tools, it was then re-branded as a consumer product in 2016.
