General Fitzhugh Lee and Lieutenant Charles Minnigerode
The bearded Confederate general Fitzhugh Lee, nephew of Robert E. Lee, poses with his staff officer Lieutenant Charles Minnigerode for a glass-plate stereograph portrait. Minnigerode entered the Confederate army at the age of sixteen without the permission of his father and namesake, the renowned rector of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond, whose parishioners included General Robert E. Lee and Confederate president Jefferson Davis.
The young Minnigerode was wounded shortly before the Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House. He committed suicide in 1888.
