KUALA LUMPUR, 17 June 2016 – The services of the Ampang LRT Line will be temporary suspended on 7, 8, and 16 July 2016 for the upgrading and migration of the train signaling system.
Effective 17 July 2016, commuters would travel seamlessly between the Putra Heights and Sentul Timur LRT Stations onboard Amy, the new 6-car LRT trains commissioned to replace the existing fleet of Ampang Line LRT trains that has been in service for almost 20 years.
“The temporary service suspension is needed for us to upgrade and migrate the current signaling system to the automated Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system for higher efficiency and enhanced safety.
“We decided to conduct this exercise on 7 and 8 of July, which is expected to coincide with the second and third day of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, and subsequently on 16 July 2016, a Saturday, to minimize the impact and inconveniences to our commuters,” Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd CEO, Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin said.
During the temporary service suspension, FREE shuttle bus services will be provided between 6am and 12 midnight to ferry customers along the stations of Ampang LRT Line and Sri Petaling LRT Line to Rapid KL Pasar Seni bus hub.
Full details on the shuttle bus services will be provided later.
Ahmad Nizam said: “With the successful upgrading and migration of the signaling system, customers travelling from Putra Heights to the Kuala Lumpur city center no longer need to switch trains at the Sri Petaling LRT Station.
“They would also be able to travel onboard our new train, Amy, seamlessly between Putra Heights and Sentul Timur.
“However, pending the full deployment of the new trains in December 2016, alternate trains would make a turnaround at Bandar Tasik Selatan during the morning and evening peak hours between 7am and 9am, and 5pm and 7pm, to cater for the peak hour crowd,” said Ahmad Nizam.
Upon completion of the upgrading and migration of the train signaling system, Ahmad Nizam said Rapid Rail would introduce two new operation modes - the LRT Sri Petaling Line between Putra Heights and Sentul Timur, and the LRT Ampang Line for services between Chan Sow Lin and Ampang.
“With the new operations modes, customers travelling from Ampang to either Sentul Timur or Putra Heights would need to disembark and switch trains at the Chan Sow Lin station to enter the Sri Petaling Line from 17 July 2016.
“Adequate signage will be placed and announcements made. Those heading towards Putra Heights from Chan Sow Lin shall board the train from Platform 1, while those heading towards the city center shall board from Platforms 2A and 2B.
