About this project

The Web is full of videos content.

It's normal in everyday life to open websites such as YouTube, Netflix, Infinity, HBO and so on...

To do so, people always need to have a fast connection because movies are not small, you download from 500 mb (old movies) to 1+ gb (new movies, 720p+)

Sometimes during midday or the early afternoon the connection is slow because of many people connected.

The goal of this project is to create a Fast, (not based on central Servers) reliable and environmentally friendly network.

The problem:

Now let's suppose you are watching a movie called X.

Your connection contact the remote WebServer and ask for the movie file encoded with H.264 by Netflix.

Meanwhile another person ask for the same movie and the WebServer do the same.

The person who asked for the same movie is in your house, your brother! (Or maybe my neighbour, a school, a person in my city...)

The question is... Why do I have to stream the same movie far away when I already have it in my house or near me?

The solution

A network of people:

Downloading the same movie from a lot of computers near you is FAST

Even if you have a slow connection.

It's easy to explain it with a leaf!

The red circle it's the main Video Source (the first sever)

Then the file is spread in every direction of the leaf (Veins) and if I want to watch that video I do NOT need to have the original Source (Which is far away and then SLOW to stream it)

The Algorithm used to encode videos is H.265 or H.264

H.265 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding

H.265 is a new algorithm... It compress data better than H.264 and the quality is incredible!

H.265 itself is using less than 50% of the bandwidth if compared to H.264.

NOTE. H.264 with the x264 encoder.

VLC is already using H.265 as BETA

The project:

Let's use a emoji!

H.265 + Fast Network = ♥

So how does it work?

Simple... The delivery of these contents is from the nearest PC which is streaming it!

In a word? FAST!

That's how it works!

Technical stuff for Geeks:

The project will be hosted by Amazon AWS in Ireland.

I use the Transcoder to encode videos and their global CDN to transport the video into your country.

So you can always enjoy a super fast network

Give a try to Amazon AWS:

This video is 640x360 -> 29fps (32 Megabyte)

https://jsfiddle.net/1h026f8x/3/show/

This video is 1080p HD (1920x1080) -> 25fps (154 Megabyte)

https://jsfiddle.net/e83caueg/1/show/

THESE VIDEOS ARE HOSTED ON AMAZON AWS ON THEIR CDN.

The mobile Network:

Smartphones are a part of our lives... Watching movies on it would be amazing, right?

Maybe without using up all of your data!

It's a work in progress!

The main problem is that smartphones don't have a fast CPU so there's no point to stress them with Encoder and Algorithm and a lot of more things...

So a solution is to download movies or another ........... :)

Risks and challenges

There might be a risk about how many people are connected.
Even if it's actually not a problem because then we just need to buy Servers (Servers are used to manage users).

It might be very difficult to create the Algorithm for mobile users.
