Foots Cray Meadows

Size: 100 hectares.

Travel information: Foots Cray Meadows is accessible from North Cray Road, Leafield Lane, Rectory Lane, Bexley Lane, Water Lane, The Spinney, The Grove, and Riverside Road.  The nearest railway station is Albany Park, Steyton Avenue, Bexley, DA5 3HP, the site is on bus route 492 and B14, and there is a small car park situated on Rectory Lane.

Information: This park is the largest open space in the borough consisting of rolling landscapes, ancient woodland, the river cray, five arches bridge, and wildflower meadows. The wildflower meadows have been classed as a local nature reserve which provides a wealth of diverse habitats for flora, fauna, and wildlife. 

Facilities: The site has a permitted horse ride route starting at Water Lane, and a large children's playground accessible via the Riverside Road entrance.

Activities: This open space is suitable for walking, dog walking, nature study, bird watching, and general recreation.

Dog walkers: Dog waste bins are strategically located around the open space. In order to protect wildlife on the lake area dog owners are urged to keep them on a lead near the waters edge during wildfowl breeding season. Dogs are not permitted in the children's playground.

Friends group: The Friends of Foots Cray Meadows is a community group formed from local people whose aim is to conserve and promote the meadows. The group organises walks, talks, and events throughout the year.
