The Amakhala Experience

Bush Lodge, positioned at the top end of an open valley in the Amakhala Game Reserve and offers en-suite, tented and thatched suites overlooking a wild life watering point with big sky views. Each suite of the Game Lodge has a secluded private viewing deck with intimate plunge pool. Within the spacious interior hot and cold air-conditioning, an atmospheric fireplace, large oval bath and romantic alfresco double showers make this the perfect bush retreat.

The main lodge of this Five star Safari establishment offers luxurious dining, splendid lounge areas and an expansive viewing deck with magnificent views of game-filled plains. Evenings are spent around the outdoor fireplace admiring the unspoilt African star-scape.

Bush Lodge is only a 45 minute drive east of Port Elizabeth and is situated in the malaria free, Greater Addo and Frontier Country area in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, this breathtaking Safari Park offers sightings of the Big Five and numerous other species.

Bush Lodge offers twice-daily game viewing Safari trips by open 4×4 safari vehicles. The once-in-a-life time professionally guided safari trips with Riveting game viewing experiences, including sunset river cruises make for an exceptional wild life experience.

The guest reception is at the colonial Reed Valley Inn, from where guests are transferred into the reserve to enjoy the comfort and elegance of the tented Safari style accommodation.

Amakhala Game Reserve is renowned for its truly spectacular topography and boasts 5 of South Africa’s 7 biomes. It is a particularly diverse and picturesque reserve, and has the Bushman’s River meandering through it. Amakhala boasts an abundant variety of wildlife including the Big 5, and over 250 species of birdlife thereby offering dynamic and abundant wildlife experiences on game drives, night drives, walking safaris and boat cruises.

Bush Lodge offers twice-daily expeditions by open 4×4 safari vehicles you will traverse over 18 000 acres weaving through 5 of the country’s 7 biomes

The abundant wilderness of Amakhala Game Reserve preserves a complex and diverse ecosystem, providing habitat for over 60 mammal species. The Bushman’s River winds its way through the reserve providing its life source of water to the myriad of wildlife and birdlife.

The dramatic and ever changing topography of Amakhala Game Reserve is host to an abundant tapestry of sights and sounds keeping one fixated on what one may see around the next turn of the land-rover track.

The majestic lion, herds of elephant, buffalo and giraffe, cheetah and endangered white rhino make up the big game component. Amakhala Game Reserve is also home to substantial herds of plains game species including zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, oryx and eland to name but a few.

A recorded bird list of over 250 species on the reserve allows for great land based birding and further birding can be enjoyed whilst cruising along the Bushmans River.

Location

The lodge is located 70km/45 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth on the N2 North to Grahamstown.

Driving Times: Allow for approximately 1 hour drive from Port Elizabeth airport.
