Rosen Livingston & Cholst LLP Combines Operations with Anderson Kill P.C.
New York, NY (June 1, 2016) — Rosen Livingston & Cholst LLP, a full-service New York law firm known primarily for its boutique real estate practice and niche specialty representing the boards and management companies of cooperatives, condominiums and home owners’ associations (HOAs), today combined operations with Anderson Kill P.C., a national law firm headquartered in New York.
All of Rosen Livingston’s ten attorneys are joining Anderson Kill, six of them as shareholders, as are the firm’s paralegals and support staff.
The Rosen Livingston attorneys provide counsel to the boards of more than 200 co-op, condo and HOA associations. These associations range from multi building complexes to small brownstones located throughout the greater New York area. These clients include well established noteworthy buildings as well as new construction projects and buildings converted from rental premises. Services include preparing offering plans, oversight of construction and renovation projects, representation in refinancing and workouts, dealings with the Attorney General’s office, and an array of other services essential to a co-op or condominium’s functioning.
The Rosen Livingston attorneys also represent clients in corporate litigation, particularly real estate litigation, and serve as defense counsel to numerous public defender organizations throughout the U.S. The attorneys defend claims of director and officer liability and employment discrimination. In addition, they counsel clients in general corporate law and real estate transactions.
Founders Morton H. Rosen and Peter I. Livingston are pioneers and leaders in the representation of co-ops, condominiums and HOAs. Mr. Rosen was in at the birth of the conversion of New York City rental properties into co-ops and condominiums in the 1970s and 1980s, when he represented numerous tenants and tenant groups in the negotiation of offering plan terms and purchase contracts. That business evolved naturally into representing boards and managers.
Mr. Livingston joined forces with Mr. Rosen in 1993. Previously, he was a senior partner in the New York office of a 175-attorney litigation firm. He has been retained by both the FDIC and RTC to represent their interests with respect to complex real estate foreclosure matters and related lender liability issues. He has represented numerous co-op corporations and condominium associations and their boards in litigation in federal and state court.
In combining forces, Anderson Kill and Rosen Livingston Cholst anticipate synergies in their litigation, real estate, insurance recovery and corporate practices. The incoming attorneys have handled numerous insurance coverage disputes — Anderson Kill’s largest practice area — and a wide array of commercial disputes, both in prosecution and defense. “We know that we’re joining forces with aggressive and creative litigators at Anderson Kill,” Mr. Livingston observed. “That’s a good cultural fit, to go along with the compatibility of our core practices.”
