Max Verstappen received a surprise visit at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where the second week of testing is being held as part of the Formula 1 pre-season. Johan Cruyff stopped by the Toro Rosso garage at the Catalan circuit to say hello to his fellow countryman, who was not taking part in the team's testing schedule.
Verstappen had his photograph taken with Dutch football icon and posted the snap on Twitter as proof of the meeting. "Great to meet sports legend Johan Cruyff here in Barcelona", wrote the young driver while Carlos Sainz was putting the STR11 through its paces.
Cruyff replied to Verstappen via his own Twitter account. "It's been nice to meet a great talent and fellow Dutchman Max Verstappen in Barcelona."
The 68-year-old retired footballer announced back on 22nd October that he is suffering from lung cancer and is receiving chemotherapy to combat the disease.
The former Ajax and Barcelona player and coach had not made any public appearances in months and picked Verstappen's visit to Barcelona to demonstrate that he is fighting the condition. "After several medical treatments I can say that the results have been very positive", he tweeted three weeks ago.
