Sruthi Hariharan has achieved a lot in her career in a short span of time. The actress seems to have gone beyond the stereotypical roles that Kannada heroines are usually offered. The Lucia girl is defining her career with some good films and has always tried to pick up projects where she has an interesting role.
While Sruthi is waiting for the Kannada Raate and her Tamil debut Nerungi Vaa Muthamidathe to release, she is simultaneously shooting for Sipayi. Her latest project is Godhi Banna Sadharna Mykattu helmed by Hemanth Rao, who is debuting as a director with this film. What is more exciting for the actress is that she is sharing screen space with senior actor Anant Nag, who she considers one of the most charming personalities in the Kannada industry.
Talking about how she came across the project, she says, "I met Hemanth on the sets of Jacob's film Savari 2 but never knew that he was inclined towards direction. Recently, he approached me and told me about Godhi Banna. Then he explained the story to me in some detail—it was to be about a missing person. Hemanth told me about the Doordarshan announcements of missing people which were flashed in between other programmes which I found really interesting. When he went on to describe my character, I immediately jumped on it and agreed to do it."
According to Sruthi, the 'Missing' element is just one part of the story and her role otherwise is quite prominent. She is to be paired with a newcomer.
"It is a character who is very common in today's life but not much represented in Indian cinema. There is a lot of emotional baggage that the character carries in this film. The girl is a motivated career woman who gives her 200 per cent to her work and does not bother about her personal life. She is very focussed and driven towards excelling in her profession. I am happy to be playing such a role and I think that such films will help me to balance my career," says Sruthi.
Interestingly Sruthi is offered films by directors who have observed her on the sets of other projects. When asked as to what strikes those directors and makes them offer her interesting roles, she says, "Probably my commitment towards film has been observed by people around me. I am not the kind, who just goes on the sets and follows the director's instructions blindly. I sit and discuss the scene with the team and get a clear picture of not only my character but about the film on the whole. Just like how people get high on alcohol, I get the same kick, when I am working in a project. I get addicted to my role and the film I am in. In fact, I am doing an art film in Tamil, which is titled Nila (moonlight) where I play a really intense character. The shooting is happening over the last one year. But still there is excitement in going to Chennai to shoot for this particular film."
Likewise, the other movies that she has been part of have some unique titles. To begin with, she did Cinema Company in Malayalam followed by Lucia in Kannada and then she had Dyavre, Savari 2 in her kitty. Coming up now will be Raate and Sipayi. And, now she has taken up Godhi Banna Sadharna Mykattu. "Isn't this called 'Luck'? However, it definitely requires the same effort from me. I have a lot of homework to do for my role in Godhi Banna... because I want to be the character and look like her. The film will go on floors from December because Anant sir has dates available only during that time. That leaves me with ample time to do my preparations for the role," she signs off.
