The first known filming on the Grim’s Dyke estate was in the early sixties. In that era much of the filming was associated with Hammer or the Detective and Espionage TV series of ITC (International Television Corporation). ITC mostly made for combined UK and USA television screening, but also a wider world market. Series such as The Saint, The Avengers, The Champions along with Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) typify the productions of this era and some series reached the amazing total of 118 episodes. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, which gained Maggie Smith an Oscar has some filming at Grim’s Dyke as does the Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah film Sliding Doors. In more recent times Eastenders, Holby City and Little Britain have all had filming at Grim’s Dyke whilst Doctor Who episodes involving the Daleks are from an earlier era. The most recent major film is ‘One Chance’ which stars James Corden in a portrayal of the life of Paul Potts, the opera singer and Britains Got Talent winner. The Sullivan Suite features as a wedding night location in this film released in October 2013; the film trailer includes scenes shot at Grim’s Dyke.
