Johann George Wiedhofft was born as second son to Frederick Gottlieb & Mary Elizabeth (Ruppersberg) in Holborn, London in 1825 . His baptism was recorded at the church of St George the Martyr, Holborn on 13th May 1825 as Johann Georg (son of) Fredk & Mary Elizabeth, Chacer.
16th or 26th February 1827 brother Charles James was born.
15th February 1829 brother William Louis' Baptism at the church of St George the Martyr, Holborn.
4th October 1831 brother Alfred Henry was born.
about 1834 Sister Louisa Ann was born.
about 1837 sister Mary was born in Bloomsbury, London.

Johan was not shown in the 1851 or 1861 census and may have been making his way to Australia. There is a record of a George Wiedhoft (age 28) arriving in Australia aboard the ship "John Barrow" in 1853 (could this be "our" Johann George?).
Johann George's father died in December 1865 in Camberwell. We do not know when he "came home" but George Wiedhoff is shown on the 1871 census living at 4 St Annes Terrace, South St, Peckham, with his widowed mother.

Our next note is that his mother died aged 77 of chronic bronchitis in Peckham in the March of 1874, the death was registered by daughter Louisa (Filler) present at death and her will left everything (under £1500 - a substantial amount) to eldest son (Frederick Augustus).
51 year old Johann George married 42 year old widow Amelia Elizabeth Longley (nee Fordham) on the 23rd April 1876 at St Pauls Church, Islington, North London. She was the daughter of travelling salesman Thomas Isaac Fordham and widow of (possibly) attorney Frederick Henry Longley of Holborn.
Johan George died aged 54 in the March quarter of 1879 and the death was registered in the Hackney district of London.
His widow Amelia Elizabeth re-married in the September quarter of the same year. (Amelia Elizabeth Fordham was the daughter of Thomas Isaac Fordham. She was b. 1833. He was the unsuccessful son in an otherwise successful family. She married William Callis Heath a "scourer" (in this context a laundryman) on 9 Oct 1852 at St. Geo Southwark. In 1861 a William Callis Heath, a laundryman married Mary Helen Knight in St. Pancras. He died on 14-12-1866, Mary Heath executrice. Was this bigamous? The marriage of Amelia Elizabeth Longley the d. of Thos. Isaac Fordham (in his presence) to J,G. Wiedhofft is slightly odd, as perhaps was he, an aging bachelor living with his mother, no will or admon on death. Moreover I cannot find her previous marriage to Longley. On 24.8.1879 newly widowed Amelia married John Frederick Wiseman Bush, laundryman, bachelor of Conrad Street Hackney, son of John Wiseman (sic) She was also of Conrad Street as were her parents at one time.
