Having worn glasses most of my life, it's always been a pain to replace them when the frame breaks. There are limited options for repair. Usually my options were to go buy new frames in hopes of finding some that fit my existing lenses or to buy a complete new pair. In either case, I'm out at least $100. Having worked for an optical company, I noticed that most lenses were similar; but with minor differences in how the lenses were cut. I began to work on developing a frame that had enough stretch in it to fit these minor differences. The plan is for 5-10 different frame types depending on the shape/size of the lens. Since frames can be produced relatively cheap, my price point would be between $10-$20 per pair. This would be a great alternative for those who may not have the funds available to buy a new pair or have children who are rough on their glasses. Ultimately I see these in Walgreens, CVS and Online sales. I am currently working on prototypes with different materials to find the best quality. The money raised would be used toward the purchase of materials and advancement of my product.
The biggest challenge I've come across is finding the correct material that will hold it's shape, yet be flexible enough to stretch around various lenses.
