Mitsubishi and unidentified US firm discuss armoured vehicle partnership

01 September 2016

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is in talks with a US company to co-develop and produce an armoured vehicle for international markets, the Japanese corporation confirmed to IHS Jane's on 1 September.

An MHI spokesman also confirmed that the corporation is liaising with the Japanese government on the potential programme but did not disclose the identity of the US company.

IHS Jane's understands that a formal announcement about the collaborative project is expected later this year. This is likely to be an agreement framed around a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

No details about the type or specifications of the vehicle have been revealed by MHI, although the corporation has relatively recent experience in developing and producing a range of related products including the Type 10 and Type 90 main battle tanks and the Type 89 infantry combat vehicle.
