Orlando to give Pulse victims Greenwood Cemetery plots

Official: Orlando will offer plots at Greenwood Cemetery to the 49 killed in Pulse nightclub shooting

Hoping to ease the burden on the families of those killed in the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub this weekend, Orlando plans to set aside plots at Greenwood Cemetery for each victim, an official confirmed.

According to Heather Fagan, deputy chief of staff for mayor Buddy Dyer, the plots will be offered to the 49 victims' families, free of charge. The city will also cover some burial costs, she said.

Fagan said officials have selected a section of the cemetery along Anderson Street, which is visible even when the cemetery is closed. The downtown Orlando skyline is also visible from that area, she said.

The city doesn't yet know how many families will take up the offer.

"We’re working with victim service advocates and getting them this information," Fagan said.

The city owned, 100-acre Greenwood Cemetery, which dates back to the 1880s, is the final resting place of many local historic figures, including milk company founder T.G. Lee and several former mayors.
