My name is Kate, an entrepreneur in Ottawa, Ontario. A Date by Kate is a business where I plan fun and interesting dates for couples. I craft these up so you don't have to look at your partner and say, "what do you want for dinner tonight?" Just leave it to me, get excited about the surprise ahead and follow the instructions!
For the past two years, I've been planning custom dates for one couple at a time. I want to introduce a subscription model to my business so that people all over Ottawa can partake in my dates.
There are endless possibilities for things to do in our city. These include, but are not limited to: activities, challenges, events, festivals, food and beverage consuming, romantic nudges or frolicking in the park.
For the price of a fancy latte each month, you'll gain access to once-in-a-lifetime experiences that would have taken you hours to plan.
Couples will receive an e-mail every month with an 'agenda' laid out for them. Your travel info, maps, and itinerary will be included. There are elements that will be timely and others that will be more relaxed and up to you. You'll cover the costs of services, and I'll be in your corner ensuring that you'll have the best experience possible. Don't worry – I'll give you a heads up to let you know what the budget will be each month.
Most experiences will have a little advantage; this could be a special deal, something on the house or a unique product / experience set up for my subscribers. They'll expire in 30 days – incentive to get off the couch and explore! I really enjoy supporting local shops and I want to keep their doors open for business :)
The biggest reason for this Kickstarter? I need to know how many couples I'm going to have to plan for. The hopeful start date is January 2017, which will give me a couple of months to get my itineraries in order.
Let's be realistic, this is a completely NEW concept I've been exploring for the past two years and with that comes a ton of Q&A's.
I'll need to ensure there's great communication with my subscribers. My packages and design will need to be very clear. My relationships with local businesses will be key in order to execute these dates smoothly. I've already made 30-40 solid connections in these first two years of business.
I'm a jill-of-all-trades and have done everything for this company: event planning, web design, social media, graphic design (with the exception of completing my logo) and now video-editing and promotion.
Being transparent with costs, I'm mobile which enables me to meet with clients all over the city and present my plans to them. My daily planner is my biggest organizational tool and printer ink/paper are continual supplies.
In the future, working with print shops and a video production company will only further my business and brand. I'll be switching web providers to set myself up for e-commerce.
The breadth of expenses will all depend on the number of couples who sign up for this, but luckily it's a business with minimal overhead and maximum motivation!
