New HL2: Episode 4 info surfaces

As you may or may not know, some servers of Eidos have been hacked and a bunch of resumes have been leaked: http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpos...6&postcount=79

Quote:
Square Enix can confirm a group of hackers gained access to parts of our Eidosmontreal.com website as well as two of our product sites. We immediately took the sites offline to assess how this had happened and what had been accessed, then took further measures to increase the security of these and all of our websites, before allowing the sites to go live again.

Eidosmontreal.com does not hold any credit card information or code data, however there are resumes which are submitted to the website by people interested in jobs at the studio. Regrettably up to 350 of these resumes may have been accessed, and we are in the process of writing to each of the individuals who may have been affected to offer our sincere apologies for this situation.
I've been informed that in the bunch of resumes, there's also a CV of a specific individual that was working on "Half - Life 2: Episode 4", developed by Arkane Studios during 2006-7 before "Valve decided to put their episodic efforts on hold." (Does this mean in general or for this specific product? Good question!)

Thus in 2007 Arkane Studios began work on a new Source title, "The Crossing". The Crossing was also supposed to offer PC/360 crossplay, something that wasn't widely known, until today that is. Also a PS3 version was planned as well (a little surprising as Source wasn't PS3 compatible yet)

Interesting. This means that EA artwork we saw a while back was either from a previous version of Episode Four EA was at some point handling, or was from a different Half-Life project.

The former's more likely.

This isn't new information though is it? We always knew that a fourth episode was in the works at an external studio.

We didn't know the name of the studio, the specific dates, etc..

Some additional info:

- The product is described being "postponed" and "on hold" (please note that the CV seems to have been written in 2008).
- It was Valve that approached Arkane for help developing it (not the other way around, although that wouldn't make much sense, would it? )
- They worked on it "for a full year" before Valve changed their minds.

And that is all.

Ah yes, that's true.

Makes sense as Arkane had already obtained a license to use the Source engine.

It would be interesting if the project was completed and EP3 wasn't out yet (and it actually isn't out yet! )!! What would they do with it?

I was always of the impression that it would have been a Seven Hour War game.

If so, thank God it didn't get made.

Ha, and we all assumed Gearbox was the one behind the Ep4 rumours.

The leaked concept art supports that idea, but then why call it Ep4? It just suggests it would follow chronologically.

Anyway, why would a 7 Hour War game be so bad (other than the fact that there's no Freeman)? It seems suitable for third party developers to do the different takes on existing scenarios while Valve push forward with the new scenarios and story developments.

No Alyx...

And we're gonna lose it anyway, so you're not fighting with a cause.

Pardon me for asking, but what's that leaked concept we're talking about?

It surfaced in an EA employee's portfolio a little while ago.

Thanks!

I wouldn't say those take place during the War itself, but probably the time between SHW and Half-Life 2.

I'm not sure how I feel about having that time period directly explored. I like the way Valve paint it as some enigmatic event that occurred some indeterminable time in the past. The effects are clearly still being felt, and I don't see any need to have to illustrate that any more than the games already do.
