Paragon Hex > PP2
The first Design in the Paragon family, the Paragons Hex blends precision cutting and surface sculpting to create rhomboids with a tapering angled relief. The unique pieces are placed in a hexagonal layout to create a tile that interlocks, resulting in a seamless modern surface for walls.

Paragon Chevron > PP1
Paragons Chevron blends precision cutting and surface sculpting to create rhomboids with a tapering angled relief. The pieces are placed in an angled layout to create a tile that interlocks, resulting in a unique repeating chevron pattern that creates a dramatic surface for walls.
Dunes > DP1

Dunes are composed of elegantly drawn out subway tiles sculpted with an offset angled surface. This creates a modern tapering trapezoid relief that dances across the surface. Meshed in a straight stack pattern, Dune tiles are successively placed to create an exclusive finished surface.

Introducing Cobbles & Tundra Sage

Thursday, June 25th, 2015
We are excited to introduce to you Cobbles and Tundra Sage, our first new products launched in 2015.These original designs are already in stock here in the USA and available for purchase.Below is a quick introduction to these exciting additions to the Island Stone line.

Cobbles

Cobbles broadens our popular Level Pebble look into our unique range of Indonesian marbles. Combining the appealing natural curve of pebbles with a smooth flat marble surface, Cobbles achieves a truly unique look.  Simple, yet distinctive, Cobbles are an excellent choices for residential floors in bathrooms and kitchens, while equally a good option for larger scale commercial surfaces.

Cobbles are created by cutting quarried marbles into various sized natural pebble shapes. Each “pebble” is individually created before being hand placed onto mesh to create a “one of a kind” interlocking tile. En mass these individually unique tiles interlock into a seamless natural stone surface.

The distinct personalities of our Indonesian marbles are the defining trait of the Cobble range. While Level Pebbles showcase exclusive Indonesian pebbles, Cobbles branch out further into beige, tan, grey and various blends that are easily matched with classic natural stone and/or porcelain tiles.

Each stone offered in the Cobble range has an established history and rigorous testing to insure complete confidence for installations internally and externally, in cold temperatures and submerged applications such as pools, fountains and baths.

Tundra Sage

Our ongoing quest for sourcing exclusive materials unearthed the new “Tundra Sage” pebble. Named for its distinctive greyish green hue, Tundra Sage is offered in our 12”x12” Perfect Pebble line.  Tundra Sage perfectly balances the dichotomy between natural stone and modern design, offering a hue popular in contemporary interior design.

A hard stone, Tundra Sage is versatile and appropriate for internal and external use with appropriate sealing.

Innovative Approach to Tile Design

Stacked Pebble Suspenders

Stacked Pebble Suspenders

With our distinctive line of tiles and claddings, we pride ourselves on promoting and supporting the most innovative and contemporary approaches to design. Regardless of the impressive hotel, resorts and high end residential designs we have been a part of, David Lindsy, Manager and Lead Designer of Natural Stone & Tile in Arlington, Tennessee, blew us away in his use of Island Stone tiles during a recent design event in Memphis. Using professional models, David took select tile and created wearable clothing that were worn during the event. Combined with displays created using Island Stone glass mosaics, the crowd of designers and architects were enlightened as to just how versatile and creative tile design can be. While the weight constraints of using tile as attire will probably prevent this approach from ever gaining wider acceptance, David should be applauded for opening our eyes to previously unconsidered approaches to designing with tile. If you are looking for someone to offer original and inspirational Island Stone tile design ideas for your next project, David, who’s history of using Island stone tiles and claddings in residential and commercial projects alike, will be sure to offer some great ideas. http://nstone.com/

Portugal use of tile

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

cubis2

A recent trip to Portugal opened up my eyes to the versatility and personality that tile offers. Portugal is built from tile. While here in the states, we tend to see tile as appropriate for select environments, in Portugal there is no floor or wall that is left unfinished. Tile driveways, tile retaining walls, tile rooms. Small kitchens and bathrooms, which would be otherwise unnoticeable are transformed by the tile used. While from afar, a Portuguese home might appear very mundane and standardized, it is the tile work that makes each unique and reflects the personality and style of the inhabitants. This is the lesson from which we could learn much. You don’t need to own a mansion to warrant using tile in your home. Tile can turn even the smallest, simplest room into an exclusive environment. A simple subtle colored glass tile design behind your bathroom mirror, the powerful look of Medan pebbles in your kitchen backsplash, rough rustic cladding transforming a fireplace or the comforting texture of a random tile or pebble tile on the bathroom floor. Look around your house, each room is a chance to project your personal design ethic

Are pebble tiles green?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Thoughts on the green values of pebble tile.

The demand for green building products continue to gain momentum as people recognize that there are a wide range of product choices that help reduce the adverse effects of new construction.
With the popularity of LEED certification at the forefront, many different approaches to determining a products carbon footprint exist; each offers different approaches and different results. At the core a pebble tile is a very green product. Pebble is a natural stone. The process of building the tile requires nominal manufacturing. Pebble tiles require a very tight weave that is achieved only though the hand placement of stones by individual skilled craftsman. The manufacturing side is on the creation of the mesh and the adhesive, (both are a very small percentage of the products weight or volume) as well as the cutting of the stone. In comparison, other mosaic tiles require significant amounts of energy to create or require adverse chemicals to make colors or surfaces. The adverse side of tiles overall is in the energy related to transportation of the heavy material. A majority of tile is produced oversees and energy is required in transporting from it’s origins to the end customer.
Pebble tile recyclability. Because the composition of the stone is not altered, the only waste created by a pebble tile is in the mesh and adhesive, both very small elements of the product. The stone itself remains the same as it was in its original state when found in nature.
