Everyone Still Using Their Galaxy Note 7

According to these statistics, no one really seems to care that their Galaxy Note 7 can blow up at any time. People are still using it as much now as they were two weeks ago when the device was recalled. Fire, schmire, who cares? I still need to use my phone. big grin

Nearly two weeks after Samsung recalled the Galaxy Note 7 due to the risk of explosion, the device is still being used just as frequently by its owners. This is according to data from Apteligent, a mobile analytics company that claims "usage rate of the phone among existing users has been almost the exact same since the day of the recall."

Lawsuit Claims Oil Exec Pretended To Be Elon Musk

It would seem that Tesla is suing an oil pipeline services executive, claiming he used a Yahoo mail account to try to impersonate Elon Musk. Apparently the "kthx 4 h4rd werx" gave it away that the e-mails were not from Musk himself.

The lawsuit filed on Wednesday alleges that Todd Katz, the chief financial officer for Quest Integrity Group, created the fake email address "elontesla@yahoo.com" and posed as Tesla CEO Elon Musk requesting confidential information. Quest Integrity "provides pipeline services and other management solutions for the oil and gas industry," according to the suit.

Apple Is A Sexist, Toxic Work Environment

I'm not saying I doubt these claims, and I'm certainly not defending Apple, but I do find some of these accusations a bit odd like how evil managers tell you to "smile" (that's sexism) and all the dude-bros at Apple are "Christians."

According to Claire*, "several people" who have quit, citing a "white, male, Christian, misogynist, sexist environment," were not given exit interviews. "Their departure is being written up as a positive attrition," she told Mic.

Woman Sues Parents For Sharing Embarrassing Childhood Photos On Facebook

Thanks to Facebook, we now have to put up with lawsuits like this. Back in the day, you only had to worry about your parents busting out the baby pictures during family get togethers or when you brought your date home for the first time. Since when can you sue over baby pictures anyway?

A 18-year-old woman from Carinthia is suing her parents for posting photos of her on Facebook without her consent. She claims that since 2009 they have made her life a misery by constantly posting photos of her, including embarrassing and intimate images from her childhood. Her lawyer Michael Rami says that to date, her parents have posted 500 images of her on the social media site without her consent, and he believes she has a good chance of winning in court.

Torrent Site Founder, Moderator and Users Receive Prison Sentences

I just don't understand stuff like this. Is running a torrent site really worth having to pay millions of dollars in fines and a prison sentence? The kicker is that some of the people arrested and fined were just moderators and users of the site. It's just not worth it.

The 28-year-old former operator of a French-based torrent site has been ordered to serve a year in jail and pay a five million euro fine. A moderator received a four-month suspended sentence. Somewhat unusually, four regular users of the site were tracked down by their IP addresses. They too received custodial sentences.

Autopilot Supplier Ends Relationship With Tesla Over Safety Concerns

When the people behind Autopilot end their relationship with you over safety concerns, you know something is wrong. How does Tesla spin statements like the ones made by these guys? It's not like they can say "those guys don't know what they are talking about." eek!

Mobileye broke ties with Tesla Motors because the Silicon Valley firm was "pushing the envelope in terms of safety" with the design of its Autopilot driver-assistance system, Mobileye’s chairman said on Wednesday. "It is not designed to cover all possible crash situations in a safe manner," Amnon Shashua, who is also chief technology officer at the Israel-based maker of collision detection and driver assistance systems, told Reuters. "No matter how you spin it, (Autopilot) is not designed for that. It is a driver assistance system and not a driverless system," he said in an interview.

Engineers Propose 'Network Cookies' As Net Neutrality Fix

What do you guys think about this? The concept seems simple enough and cookies have been around forever. Mmmm, cookies. wink

Engineers at Stanford claim they've concocted a novel solution for the ongoing problem of net neutrality: "network cookies" that let broadband consumers choose for themselves which packets get priority as they stumble about the larger internet. Detailed in a new research paper (pdf), the engineers propose a small piece of data users can attach to their packets, which are detected by the network to determine the "state associated with this cookie" and apply the desired quality of service.

NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti Specifications Leak?

The crew at OC3D claim to have leaked specifications for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. As always, it's always a good idea to take leaked info like this with a grain of salt but it is always fun to speculate on rumors. Thanks to TaintedSquirrel for the heads up.

News Image News Image

The Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is said to be made using Nvidia's GP102 GPU core design, which means that it is based on the same GPU as the GTX Titan Pascal. Nvidia has made two significant downgrades with the GTX 1080 Ti from the Titan Pascal, changing the GDDR5X memory to slower GDDR5 and taking away 4 SM units from the GPU. This will give the GTX 1080Ti a total of 3328 CUDA cores, which is a 768 more CUDA cores than the GTX 1080 and 256 fewer GPU cores than the GTX Titan Pascal.

Mass Layoffs Hit Sony San Diego Studio

According to this Gamasutra article, approximately fifty people have been laid off from Sony's San Diego Studio. If true, this comes just days after Sony cut jobs at its London game studio.

Sources close to the studio have confirmed that approximately 50 employees have been laid off, and that the layoffs impact both studio execs and regular employees alike. Sony San Diego Studio was also previously responsible for producing Guns Up and Drawn to Death, two online games on PS4. No clear reason for the layoffs has been given at this time.

Magnets For Porn Watchers, Wi-Fi Kiosks Will Lose Internet Browsers

It looks like you guys were right when you said this would immediately be used for porn. Apparently these Wi-Fi kiosks are popular with the homeless, and other people taking advantage of the free internet all day long. Imagine that. roll eyes (sarcastic)

The Wi-Fi kiosks were designed to replace phone booths and allow users to consult maps, maybe check the weather or charge their phones. But they have also attracted people who linger for hours, sometimes drinking and doing drugs and, sometimes, boldly watching pornography on the sidewalks. Now, yielding to complaints, the operators of the kiosks, LinkNYC network, are shutting off their internet browsers.

Verizon Hits Florida Mom With $9,100 In Overage Charges

I'm just going to come right out and say it, there is no way on this planet that 570GB of data should cost you $9,000 in overage charges. I don't care what anyone says, there is no reason to charge anyone that kind of money for data. Sadly, Verizon still hasn't explained to this lady how or why her bill is sky high.

The $9,100 Verizon cellphone bill staggered and stumped Valarie Gerbus, causing a financial hit that could destroy her credit. For months, the mother of two from suburban Tampa paid $118 a month for her cellphone package that included 4 gigabytes of data, which she says she never exceeded. That changed last month when Verizon charged her with using an eye-gouging 569 gigabytes for a whopping $8,535.

FBI Director: Cover Up Your Webcam

The Director of the FBI has a bit of advice for the general public...cover up your webcam! He didn't say it was because the FBI is spying on you, he just said that it was sensible advice that everyone should follow. Riiiight. wink

"There’s some sensible things you should be doing, and that’s one of them," Director James Comey said during a conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "You go into any government office and we all have the little camera things that sit on top of the screen," he added. "They all have a little lid that closes down on them. "You do that so that people who don’t have authority don’t look at you. I think that’s a good thing."
